The 1995 Mack has extensive rust in the frame rails and in the cab.  Engine three has numerous mechanical issues as well, with a total estimated cost of $100,000 to repair. Replacing the chassis with a new fire-service rated chassis would cost upwards of $175,000.  Both of these options are cost-prohibitive, and would be a poor investment. In addition to the corrosion, the water pump itself is leaking badly. The 1988 LTI pumper has outlived it's usefullness.  Aside from numerous mechanical issues, the frame itself has extensive rust, the pump is worn out and it leaks water constantly. The body is splitting apart in several places, and will not hold together much longer. With the amount of maintenance required by our front line units, this spare truck is in service as a front line pumper almost every day. This unit can no longer be relied upon to pump water.  It is only pumping 2/3 of it's rated capacity, and it must be replaced as soon as possible. The 1995 Pierce Arrow has corrosion on the rear compartment body sub frame, which must be repaired if the unit is to remain in service.  This truck has been very reliable, and has never had any major failures. The cost to refurbish this truck is estimated at $69,500, and with this investment, we can expect another 6 to 7 years of reliable service.
